No. 2 Huskies Ease Past South Florida
STORRS, Conn. – Redshirt senior Paige Bueckers scored 22 points to lead the No. 2 UConn women's basketball team (2-0) past South Florida (2-1), 86-49, Sunday afternoon in Gampel Pavilion.
"The things that I said after the game were that good teams tend to not detract from themselves," head coach Geno Auriemma said. "When they find something that is good, they build on it. When someone comes off the bench, they add to what we're doing. We went into halftime on a bit of a run and when we came out of halftime, we added to it. That's what good teams do; they don't come out flat.
Bueckers continued to show off her efficiency, shooting 9-for-10 from the field. She added three rebounds and two steals.
Sophomore Ashlynn Shade notched 12 of her 15 points in the second half while freshman Sarah Strong scored nine of her 13 points in the final 20 minutes.
The Huskies started the game on a 9-0 run and didn't step off the gas.
UConn shot 66.7 percent from the field vs. the Bulls, going 24-for-30 (80%) across the second and third quarters.
Graduate student Kaitlyn Chen led the Huskies with seven assists vs. USF. The Huskies had 20 assists on 38 field goals made.
UConn moved to 34-0 all-time vs. South Florida.
The Huskies travel to Greensboro, N.C., to face No. 15 North Carolina (2-0) this Friday at 6 p.m. on ESPN2.
