Top-Seeded Huskies to Face St. John’s in BIG EAST Quarterfinals
STORRS, Conn. – The top-seeded and third-ranked UConn women's basketball team (28-3, 18-0 BIG EAST) takes on eighth-seeded St. John's (16-14, 5-13) in the BIG EAST Tournament quarterfinals Saturday at noon in Mohegan Sun Arena. The game will air on FS1 and the UConn Sports Network from Learfield (FOX Sports 97-9).
The Huskies are seeking their 30th conference tournament title and 23rd as members of the BIG EAST.
UConn is 42-1 all-time at Mohegan Sun Arena. The Huskies have never lost a BIG EAST Tournament game in the arena.
UConn took home numerous BIG EAST end-of-season honors. Redshirt senior Paige Bueckers was unanimously named the conference's Player of the Year, becoming the fourth player in league history to win three times. After earning 10 Freshman of the Week honors this season, Sarah Strong was selected as the unanimous Freshman of the Year.
Sophomore Ashlynn Shade was named the conference's Sixth Woman of the Year. For the 19th time in his career, Geno Auriemma was named conference Coach of the Year. Bueckers and Strong were unanimously selected to the All-BIG EAST First Team along with graduate student Azzi Fudd.
UConn won the 2024-25 BIG EAST regular season championship and is the No. 1 seed in next week's BIG EAST Tournament. The Huskies have won 31 regular season conference titles, including 24 as members of the BIG EAST.
The Huskies are 51-21 all-time vs. St. John's. UConn won both meetings between the teams this season. Graduate student Azzi Fudd led the Huskies in both games, averaging 23.5 points per game.
St. John's beat Butler, 66-50, in the BIG EAST Tournament first round on Friday. This season, Lashae Dwyer leads the Red Storm with 13.5 points per game. Head coach Joe Tartamella is in his 13th season at St. John's.
