Bueckers and Strong on Naismith Trophy Midseason Team
ATLANTA – UConn women's basketball redshirt senior Paige Bueckers and freshman Sarah Strong were named to the Naismith Trophy Women's Player of the Year Midseason Team, as announced by the Atlanta Tipoff Club Wednesday.
Bueckers leads the Huskies with 18.8 points per game and 4.4 assists per game. One of the most efficient guards in the nation, Bueckers is shooting 53.1 percent from the floor and 41.5 percent from three-point range this year. She leads the nation with a 3.61 assist-turnover ratio.
Bueckers became the first freshman to win the Naismith Trophy in 2021.
Strong has been a force for the Huskies in her rookie season. She is second on the team with 16.7 points per game and leads the team with 7.9 rebounds per game, 58 steals and 36 blocks. Strong has a team-high five double-doubles this season.
Strong is one of two freshmen on the 30-player watch list.
The duo was named to the Wooden Award's late midseason top 20 list on Tuesday.
The seventh-ranked Huskies (22-3, 13-0 BIG EAST) are back in action Wednesday vs. St. John's (13-10, 3-9) at 7:30 p.m. in Gampel Pavilion.
