No. 2-Seed UConn Routs Arkansas State in NCAA First Round

STORRS, Conn. – Graduate student Azzi Fudd scored 27 points to lead the No. 2-seed UConn women's basketball team (32-3) past No. 15-seed Arkansas State (22-11), 103-34, in the NCAA Tournament First Round Saturday in Gampel Pavilion.

Fudd shot 10-for-13 from the field and 6-for-9 from three-point range. She added a career-high seven assists, two blocks and six steals.

Freshman Sarah Strong had her fourth straight double-double in the postseason, recording 20 points and 12 rebounds and adding five assists and five blocks. Sophomore Ashlynn Shade scored 20 points.

UConn scored 34 points off turnovers.

Strong and Fudd each had 13 points in the first quarter and UConn scored 18 points off turnovers to take a 34-5 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Fudd had 21 points in the first half as UConn pushed the lead to 66-16.

The Huskies will face either Oklahoma State or South Dakota State in the NCAA Second Round on Monday in Gampel Pavilion.
