Bueckers Named Wade Trophy Finalist; Bueckers, Strong Finalists for WBCA All-America
ATLANTA – UConn women's basketball redshirt senior Paige Bueckers was selected as one of four finalists for the 2025 Wade Trophy, as announced by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Tuesday.
Bueckers and freshman Sarah Strong were selected to the 50-player finalist list for the 10-member WBCA NCAA Division I Coaches' All-America team.
Bueckers is UConn's leader on and off the court in her final season in Storrs. She is averaging 19.2 points and 4.8 assists per game. One of the most efficient guards in the nation, Bueckers is currently averaging a .542/.411/.902 shooting split.
Bueckers leads the nation with a 3.9 assist-turnover ratio.
Bueckers became the first player in BIG EAST history to be named the tournament Most Outstanding Player three times. She was the fourth player in league history to be named Player of the Year three times.
Against ranked opponents this season, Bueckers is averaging 21.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game.
Bueckers became the fastest player in program history to 2,000 career points, reaching the milestone in her 102nd career game. She is one of three Huskies all-time to reach 2,000 points, 500 rebounds and 500 assists.
Bueckers was named a First Team All-American by The Athletic, AP and USBWA.
As just a freshman, Strong has established herself as one of the top players in the nation. She is averaging 16.1 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. Strong leads the Huskies in rebounds, steals and blocks and ranks second on the team in points and assists.
Against top-25 opponents this season, Strong averaged 16.5 points, 9.6 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game.
Strong already ranks in the top 10 for UConn freshmen records for numerous statistical categories: third in points (578), first in rebounds (305), second in assists (126), fourth in steals (86) and fourth in blocks (61).
Strong was unanimously named the BIG EAST's Freshman of the Year and The Athletic's National Freshman of the Year. She was selected to the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team after recording double-doubles in all three games, averaging 14.3 points and 13. 7 rebounds per game.
Strong was named an AP Second Team All-American and USBWA Third Team All-American.
Now in its 48th year, the Wade Trophy, is the oldest and most prestigious national player of the year award in college women's basketball.
Six Huskies have won the Wade Trophy a total of nine times: Rebecca Lobo (1995), Jennifer Rizzotti (1996), Sue Bird (2002), Diana Taurasi (2003), Maya Moore (2009, '10, '11) and Breanna Stewart (2015, '16).
