No. 2 Seed UConn, No. 3 Seed Oklahoma to Meet in Sweet 16
SPOKANE, Wash. – The second-seeded and third-ranked UConn women's basketball team (33-3) faces No. 3 seed and 11th-ranked Oklahoma (27-7) in the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 on Saturday in Spokane Arena at 5:30 p.m. ET. The game will air on ESPN, Westwood One and the UConn Sports Network from Learfield (FOX Sports 97-9).
The Huskies have advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the 32nd time in program history. UConn has appeared in an NCAA-record 31 straight Sweet 16s.
Redshirt senior Paige Bueckers tied her career high with 34 points to lead UConn past South Dakota State, 91-57, in the Second Round on Monday. Bueckers shot 14-21 from the field and added four assists and four steals in 29 minutes. Graduate student Azzi Fudd had 17 points while freshman Sarah Strong had 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
UConn is 13-0 all-time vs. Oklahoma. The programs have faced off in the NCAA Tournament twice before: in the 2000 Sweet 16 and in the 2002 National Championship game.
Oklahoma beat Iowa, 96-62, to advance to the Sweet 16. This season, Raegan Beers leads the Sooners with 17.5 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. Oklahoma leads the nation in assists per game (21.9) and defensive rebound per game (33.1). Head coach Jennie Baranczyk is in her fourth season at Oklahoma.
