Strong Sweeps BIG EAST Player, Freshman of the Week
STORRS, Conn. – For the second time this season, UConn women's basketball forward Sarah Strong was selected as both the BIG EAST Player and Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league Monday.
In two games last week, Strong led the Huskies with 25.5 points and 11.0 rebounds per game. She added nine assists, two blocks and five steals.
In a win over Iowa State, Strong set personal bests with 29 points, 10 made field goals and five made three pointers. She added nine rebounds and four assists.
Against USC, Strong notched 22 points and 13 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. She also had five assists and four steals.
This season, Strong leads UConn in rebounds, steals and blocks. She is second on the team in scoring.
This is the fifth time this season Strong has earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Week and the second time she's been named Player of the Week. On Dec. 9, she became just the sixth player in league history to sweep both awards (Aneesah Morrow, Paige Bueckers, Maddy Siegrist, Allazia Blockton, Maya Moore). Along with Morrow and Bueckers, she is just the third player to sweep multiple times.
The Huskies (10-2, 1-0 BIG EAST) are back in action following the holidays vs. Providence (7-7, 0-1) next Sunday, Dec. 29, in the XL Center at 1:30 p.m. Limited tickets remain HERE.
