HookC Sweeps Hoyas, 7-6

TYSONS, Va. – The UConn baseball team (20-18, 7-2 BIG EAST) grabbed its first sweep of the season with a 7-6 victory at Georgetown on Sunday afternoon at Capital One Park.

UConn came from behind for the third-straight game but did it much earlier than on Saturday and Sunday.

Down 3-0 entering the fourth, the Huskies sent 10 batters to the plate and scored five runs against  Georgetown starter Everett  Catlett  to take a 5-3 lead. Maddix Dalena lined a two-run double to right center to plate the first two UConn runs.

Caleb Shpur followed with an RBI single to tie the game at 3-3. After a hit by pitch reloaded the bases, Luke Broadhurst lined an RBI single to right to give UConn a 4-3 advantage.

After a Hoyas pitching change, Korey Morton lifted a sacrifice fly to right to cap the scoring.

UConn starter Stephen Quigley immediately came out of the dugout and tossed a quick 1-2-3 inning to keep the momentum for the Huskies.

Freshman Tyler Minick tacked on for UConn in the fifth with a two-out, two-run homer run to center to push the lead to 7-3.

Braden Quinn was solid out of the pen for UConn with his only mistake being a two-run home run for BIG EAST RBI leader Christian Ficca that made it a 7-6 UConn lead going to the ninth.

Brady Afthim locked down his second save of the weekend and fifth of the season by stranding the tying run at third in the ninth.

Next up, the Huskies have a five-game home stand coming up this week with the first game against UMass on Tuesday, April 23 at 6:05 p.m.
