HookC Sweeps Butler, Clinches Share of BIG EAST Title
STORRS, Conn. - The UConn baseball team (33-18, 17-4 BIG EAST) swept its fifth-straight BIG EAST series, 7-1, against the Butler Bulldogs to clinch at least a share of the 2025 BIG EAST regular season title on Sunday afternoon at Elliot Ballpark.
The BIG EAST regular season title is the fifth-straight for the Huskies since returning to the league in 2021.
The UConn pitching staff pitched around traffic throughout the ballgame with UConn starter Charlie West tossing 5.0 shutout innings by maneuvering around six walks. The LHP stranded the bases loaded twice (first and third innings) with the help of six strikeouts in his outing.
Grant MacArthur put the Huskies in front in the second inning with his third home run of the weekend, a solo homer, to make it 1-0.
The Huskies added two runs in the fifth on a two-run double for Connor Lane to push the lead to 3-0.
Sam Hutchinson and Greg Shaw combined to throw a scoreless sixth inning and Shaw returned to the mound to log a scoreless seventh inning.
Sam Biller added two more runs batted in with an RBI single in the sixth and sacrifice fly in the seventh.
Sean Finn finished the game with 1.2 innings pitched after JT Caruso struck out the lone batter he faced in the eighth.
UConn has won seven-straight games and 20 of its last 21 games. The 17-4 BIG EAST mark ties a BIG EAST record that the Huskies set last season.
Next up, the Huskies face off against Northeastern on Tuesday, May 13 at 6:05 p.m. at Elliot Ballpark. The matchup pits two of the hottest teams in the country with Northeastern winners of 20 in a row.
