HookC Win Streak Snapped vs. No. 25 Northeastern
STORRS, Conn. - The UConn baseball team (33-19) had its seven game win streak snapped with a 7-1 loss against No. 25 Northeastern (42-9) on Tuesday night at Elliot Ballpark.
The UConn offense was held to one run on six hits against Northeastern with Caleb Shpur having the only multi-hit effort.
Shpur also stole a pair of bases in the contest to set a UConn single-season record with his 41st stolen base of the year. The 41 steals passes Dennis Dwyer's 1993 record of 40 stolen bases.
The lone UConn run came in fourth inning after Tyler Minick tripled to right field. The sophomore came in to score on a wild pitch.
RHP Ian Cooke was solid on the hill, pitching 5.1 innings out of the bullpen and notched eight strikeouts. The New Milford, Conn. native tied Tim Cate for second all-time in program history with 270 strikeouts.
Trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the eighth, UConn placed runners at first and third with one out with Ryan Daniels and Tyler Minick coming to the plate. But a strikeout and ground out ended the UConn late-inning rally.
Next up, the Huskies wrap up the regular season with a three-game series at Elliot Ballpark against the Maine Black Bears. The series opener is slated for Thursday, May 15 at 6:05 p.m.
