HookC Wins Third-Straight, Clinches Series in Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The UConn baseball team (9-11) won its third-straight game to capture a series win at UNC Greensboro (10-12), 5-2, on Saturday afternoon at the UNCG Baseball Stadium.

LHP Cayden Suchy posted a career-high 7.0 innings, allowed one unearned run and struck out a career-best nine batters en route to his second win of the season.

The UConn offense gave him plenty of support with a four-run fourth inning. Sophoore Tyler Minick launched his seventh home run of the year to make it 1-0 Huskies.

After a Grant MacArthur double, freshman Anthony Belisario plated the UConn first baseman with an RBI single to center. Belisario finished the day with his second-straight multi-hit game of the weekend.

Caleb Shpur capped the frame with a two-out, two-run triple just past the dive of the right fielder in the right field corner.

After the Spartans made it a 4-2 game in the eight, redshirt freshman Rob Rispoli hit an opposite field home run to push the UConn lead back to three, 5-2. It is the second home run of the year for the UConn shortstop.

UConn closer Brady Afthim registered the final five outs of the ballgame to lock down a third-straight save for the Huskies.

Next up, the Huskies attempt to go for the sweep on Sunday, March 23 at 12 p.m.
