Huskies Plate Season-High 21 in Win at BC

Box Score

BRIGHTON, MA – The UConn baseball team (18-17) scored a season-high 21 runs in a 21-9 run-rule victory at Boston College on Tuesday evening at the Harrington Athletics Village.

UConn scored in all seven at bats including a nine-run fourth inning that saw 13 batters come to the plate for the Huskies.

Caleb Shpur got the scoring going in the first with his third home run of the year, and second against Boston College this season, a two-run shot to make it 2-0.

Boston College answered with a pair of runs against Giovanni Conte in the first inning. The redshirt freshman made his collegiate debut on Tuesday and recorded his first career strikeout in his first college inning.

The Huskies and Eagles traded runs in the second with Rob Rispoli hitting a two-out RBI single for UConn.

Tied 3-3 entering the third, the Huskies posted a five-run frame. Fifth year senior Bryan Padilla kicked off the scoring with an RBI single. Beau Root and Rispoli each added RBI singles, while Connor Lane delivered a two-run double.

Boston College responded with three runs in the third to make it an 8-6 ballgame.

The Huskies erupted for nine runs in the fourth inning with a bases-clearing double from Padilla to make it 11-6. The UConn second baseman finished with four RBI on the day.

As the Huskies fourth inning dragged on the sunshine disappeared and the wind and rain rolled in.

Beau Root and Aidan Dougherty added RBI singles, Tyler Minick registered a sacrifice fly and Lane smacked a three-run home run to punctuate the scoring. Lane posted a career-high five RBI on the day.

Through a steady rain, Grant MacArthur made it 17-7 with his fourth home run of the year in the top of the fifth.

MacArthur added another run with a bases-loaded hit by pitch in the sixth and Dougherty closed the scoring with a two-run single in the seventh.

Greg Shaw III earned his first win as a Husky with 3.0 innings of work and Hector Alejandro closed the game out with a season-high 2.0 innings of work.

The win pushes the UConn win streak to a season-high five games.

Next up, the Huskies host Seton Hall in a three-game series at Elliot Ballpark, beginning Thursday, April 17 at 6:05 p.m.
