HookC Scores 29 Runs to Clinch Series at Villanova
PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. - The UConn baseball team (29-18, 12-4 BIG EAST) scored a program record 29 runs in BIG EAST play with a 29-10 win against Villanova on Saturday afternoon at Villanova Ballpark.
The 29 runs in the most since scoring 32 runs against Rhode Island on March 25, 1997 (most against D1 team in program history (scored 42 runs against Columbia High in first year as a program in 1896 and 40 against Windham High in 1897)).
Caleb Shpur had a historic day at the plate going 7-7 at the plate with six singles and a home run while also walking once. It is the first Husky to have a seven-hit game in the Penders Era (Since 2004) and the first time since Dennis Donovan had seven hits at Iona in 1979.
UConn hit seven home runs (the most in the Penders Era) in the ballgame with Ryan Daniels and Grant MacArthur each hitting two and Shpur, Tyler Minick and Sam Biller all adding home runs of their own.
The Huskies sent 17 batters to the plate in a season-high 13-run fourth inning to give the Huskies a 23-6 advantage.
MacArthur and Shpur each finished with six RBI while Biller added five and Daniels had four.
Rob Rispoli and Beau Root each had four-hit games with Rispoli scoring five runs. It is the most runs scored in a game for a Husky since Zach Bushling scored five runs against Coastal Carolina in 2021.

Hector Alejandro earned his first career saves with a career-high 3.0 innings, allowed one hit, zero earned runs and struck out two.
