HookC Kicks Off Spring Break Trip at Campbell
LILLINGTON, N.C. - The UConn baseball team (5-8) kicks off its eight-game, 11-day spring break trip with a three-game series at Campbell beginning on Friday, March 14 at 6 PM. All three games will be video streamed on FloSports and can be heard on MIXLR.
The Huskies are winners of four of their last five games and are coming off an 11-1 run-rule victory against LIU in the home opener.
Sophomore Tyler Minick is off the a great start to the year. The Reading, Pa native is the fastest Husky to hit six home runs in a year since Isaac Feldstein hit six in the first 14 games of the 2018 season. Minick has done it in just 10 games played. His last home run against LIU traveled 461 feet at Elliot Ballpark.
In 10 games played, Minick has 21 runs batted in. Last year in 42 games, the UConn third baseman had 28 total. He is 24th in the country with a 1.474 OPS and is 11th in the country with 6.50 AB/HR. Minick already has drawn six walks at the plate, a year after just drawing four.
LHP Cayden Suchy will make his first career start this weekend with him slotted to pitch on Saturday. The Huskies will hand the ball to LHP Oliver Pudvar on Friday and RHP Tommy Ellisen on Sunday.
The UConn offense is off to one of its better starts to the season with 103 runs (7.92 runs per game) in the first 13 games. The team is batting .296 with 41% of the team's runs coming with two outs (43). The offense is hitting .377 with runners in scoring position.
The Huskies and Camels have been two of the best "mid major" teams in the nation the last decade plus. Since 2018, UConn has been to all six NCAA Tournaments while Campbell has been to five with their only miss last season. Among "Mid Major" teams since 2010 the Huskies fifth in wins with 535 behind Dallas Baptist (576), ECU (570), Coastal Carolina (565) and Southern Miss (560). Campbell has 493 wins ranking 15th during that time. (Wins through 2024 season)
The series will be the first ever meetings between the Huskies and the Fighting Camels on the diamond.
