HookC Clinches Series vs. Creighton, 10-5

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn baseball team (29-20, 14-3 BIG EAST) secured its 13th-straight BIG EAST series with a 10-5 victory against Creighton (31-16, 4-12 BIG EAST) on Saturday afternoon at Elliot Ballpark.

The bottom of the UConn order was deadly on Saturday with Matt Garbowski (2-3, 2 R, 2 RBI) and Tyler Minick (4-4, 2 R 3 RBI).

The first career four-hit effort for Minick featured three singles and a two-run home run in the eighth inning that extended the UConn lead to 10-5. It is the fourth-straight game that the Reading, Pa. native has recorded at least one extra base hit.

UConn trailed 2-0 entering the bottom of the third but after singles from Garbowski and Minick, Caleb Shpur lined an RBI double into left center to get UConn on the board.

Two batters later, third baseman Luke Broadhurst gave UConn its first lead of the day with a three-run home run to dead center. It was the team-leading 12th long ball of the year for Broadhurst.

The Huskies added three more runs in the fourth on the two-run double for Garbowski and RBI single that followed from Minick.

Bryan Padilla extended his hit streak to seven games with an RBI two-bagger in the fifth to push the UConn lead to 8-3.

UConn starting pitcher Stephen Quigley earned his fourth win of the season with 5.2 innings of work and tied his season-high with eight strikeouts.

The UConn bullpen was strong with four pitchers combining to throw 3.1 shutout frames. LHP Joe Cinnella tossed a scoreless frame with the help of RHP Joe Carrea stranding an inherited runner at third in the seventh.

RHP Tommy Ellisen retired both batters he faced in the eighth inning and passed the baton to LHP Braden Quinn. The New Fairfield, Conn. native registered his second save of the season with 1.1 innings that featured three punch outs.

At the plate, Broadhurst (three) and Shpur (two) both added registered multi-hit afternoons.

Next up, the Huskies will celebrate Senior Day on Sunday with senior ceremonies beginning at 12:10 p.m. and first pitch against the Bluejays at 12:35 p.m.
