HookC Rattles Off 10th-Straight Win, Defeats Army

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn baseball team (23-17) rattled off its 10th-straight victory with a 12-5 triumph against Army (19-20) on Wednesday night at Elliot Ballpark.

Ryan Daniels hit a pair of home runs and drove in a career-high six runs to help lift the Huskies to the longest win streak since the 2022 season.

The UConn second baseman gave UConn its first lead of the game with a two-run home run in the fifth and put the game away by hitting a grand slam in the eighth inning.

It is the first career multi-homer game for the Meriden, Conn. native and he has hit four home runs in the last three games. 

The grand slam capped a six-run eighth inning that saw a 6-4 lead balloon to a 12-4 advantage. The inning started with no one on and two outs. Grant MacArthur delivered an RBI single after Connor Lane doubled in the frame. 

Rob Rispoli, Daniels, Sam Biller all delivered multi-hit performances and all three along with Caleb Shpur scored multiple runs in the game.

On a staff day on the mound, the UConn pitching staff stepped up. LHP Sam Hutchinson pitched 2.1 shutout innings with zero walks and three strikeouts.

LHP JT Caruso earned his first career win at UConn by retiring all four batters he faced with three of them being retired via strikeout. 

RHP Jude Abbadessa followed with 1.2 scoreless innings and a pair of strikeouts. 

Next up, the Huskies head to Queens, N.Y. for a battle for first place with St. John's. The series kicks off Friday, April 25 at 3:05 p.m.

Game Notes

  • The Huskies reached 10 wins in a row for the first time since the 2022 season. The 50-win Huskies had a 10-game and 12-game win streak during the 2022 campaign.
  • Ryan Daniels six RBI is the most for a Husky in a game this season.
  • Daniels is the third Husky to record a multi-HR game (Grant MacArthur & Tyler Minick)
  • The UConn pitching staff has had five-straight games with double digit strikeouts and have totaled 17 double-digit strikeout games this season.
