SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The UConn baseball team (26-18, 11-2 BIG EAST) came from behind to take the series opener at Seton Hall, 4-3, on Friday afternoon at Mike Sheppard Sr. Stadium.

UConn trailed 3-1 entering the top of the eighth inning but for the fourth straight BIG EAST road game the Huskies found a way to come back and secure a one-run win.

Paul Tammaro and Luke Broadhurst opened the eighth with back-to-back singles against Seton Hall reliever Jay Allmer.

With one-out, Bryan Padilla hit a slow one hopper to third that Zack Sylvester tried to get the runner at second base but fired the ball into right field. Tammaro scored and Broadhurst advanced to third to make it a 3-2 deficit.

Maddix Dalena followed with a RBI single to right to tie the score at 3-3.

UConn starting pitcher Stephen Quigley emerged from the dugout in the eighth and tossed a quick 1-2-3 shutdown frame to keep it tied as the game moved to the ninth.

In the ninth, Matt Malcom hit a slow chopper to third that Sylvester threw off the glove of the first baseman to allow the leadoff man to reach.

Drew Kron pinch ran for Malcom and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Caleb Shpur. The Rivervale, N.J. native, Tammaro, followed with a bullet single past the dive of the third basemen that allowed Kron to score and give UConn its first lead of the day.
