HookC Wins Ninth-Straight, Beat UMass in Hartford

HARTFORD, Conn. - The UConn baseball team (22-17) won its ninth-straight game with a 12-2 run-rule victory in seven innings against UMass (11-23-1) on Tuesday night at Dunkin' Park, home of the Hartford Yard Goats.

The Huskies tied a season-high with seven extra base hits including four home runs on Tuesday. UConn pulled away with three home runs and seven runs scored in the fifth inning.

Ryan Daniels homered for the second-straight game to open the frame with a mammoth shot down the right field line and out of the stadium. Beau Root followed two batters later with an inside the park home run to center field. It is also the second-straight game the Huskies have had an inside the park home run.

Sam Biller hit his fifth home run of the season, a three-run shot, just inside the left field foul pole to balloon the lead to 9-2.

Gaby Tirado ended the ballgame in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single to push the lead to 10 and bring the 10-run rule into effect.

Ian Cooke, Sam Hutchinson and Kyle Peters all tossed scoreless innings. Peters struck out the side in a scoreless seventh inning.

Greg Shaw III earned the victory out of the pen with three innings of one run ball out of the bullpen.

Next up, the Huskies face Army tomorrow, April 23 at 5:05 p.m. at Elliot Ballpark.
