UConn BSB Splits Doubleheader at Xavier

CINCINNATI - The UConn baseball team (11-15, 1-2 BIG EAST) split a doubleheader at Xavier (14-14, 2-1 BIG EAST) on Saturday afternoon at Hayden Field.

The Huskies jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning with Beau Root hitting a three-run home run off the top of the left field foul pole.

LHP Cayden Suchy earned the victory with 5.1 innings of work and held the Musketeers to two earned runs and struck out four. 

RHP Ian Cooke picked up the save with 3.0 shutout innings for the Huskies. 

Rob Rispoli, Bryan Padilla and Root all registered multi-hit efforts with Rispoli and Padilla delivering run scoring base hits. 

Tyler Minick hit his team leading eighth home run with a solo shot in the seventh inning. 

Matt Garbowski capped the victory with an RBI single to make it 9-4. 

In game two, the Musketeers were the team to jump out to a 4-0 advantage. The Huskies continued to fight throughout the ballgame, getting the deficit down to two on multiple occasions but ultimately lost 10-7.

Connor Lane hit his first career home run as part of a three-hit game while Ryan Daniels, Grant MacArthur and Bryan Padilla notched multi-hit performances. 

The series loss for the Huskies snaps a 14 series winning streak in the BIG EAST for the Huskies. The last BIG EAST series loss came at Georgetown at the end of the 2022 campaign.
