HookC Loses Series Opener at FAU

BOCA RATON, Fla. - The UConn baseball team (0-4) suffered its fourth-straight loss with a 5-4 setback against FAU on Friday night at the FAU Baseball Stadium.

The Huskies scored first for the first time this season with a three-run homer off the bat of sophomore Tyler Minick to give UConn a 3-0 advantage.

LHP Gabe Van Emon made the start for the Huskies but was only able to get through 2.0 innings of work after giving up two hits, two walks and one hit by pitch. Oliver Pudvar came out of the pen in the third and stranded runners at second and third.

Pudvar pitched a season-high 3.2 innings with four strikeouts but a four-run fifth inning for the Shelburne, VT native gave the Owls their first lead of the night.

The game remained 4-3 until Grant MacArthur tied the game with a solo homer in the eighth inning.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Huskies looked to get out of the frame with a caught stealing but a safe call allowed for Patrick Ward to deliver a bloop RBI single to regain the lead for the Owls.

The Huskies drop to 0-4 for the first time since 2008 and look to even the series and grab their first win of the year on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 4 p.m.
