Summer Recap for the HookC
STORRS, Conn. – The UConn baseball team had 25 student-athletes participate in summer ball this past summer with seven Huskies earning All-Star nods and Hector Alejandro highlighting the summer with a no-hitter for the Norwich Sea Unicorns.

Pitched in seven games, making five starts, for the Norwich Sea Unicorns in the Futures League. Went 5-0, compiling 33.1 innings and striking out 28 while holding a 2.16 earned run average. Made history on July 20th, throwing the second-ever complete game no-hitter in FCBL history and first in Norwich Sea Unicorns history. Alejandro went 9.0 innings while only walking one and giving up no hits in a 3-1 win over Worcester.
Sam Biller
Played in 13 games for the Keene Swamp Bats in the New England Collegiate Baseball League. Slashed a line of .250/.390/.354…Hit a home run in his debut, a victory over Bristol on July 6th. Recorded a hit in nine games…Had 3 multi-hit games… Reached base safely in all 13 games played.
Pitched in 11 games while making two starts for the Keene Swamp Bats in the New England Collegiate Baseball League. Went 2-1 while striking out 26 in 19 innings of work. Struck out at least one batter in every appearance…Received the win against Bristol (7/6) …Threw 3.0 inning scoreless while walking one, giving up no hits and punching out three.
Gio Conte
Pitched in 16 games all out of the bullpen for the Norwich Sea Unicorns in the Futures League. Went 4-1 with a 3.24 ERA, while striking out 27 in 24.0 innings of work…Earned the win in the first round of FCBL Playoffs going 2.0 innings, surrendering only one hit, while striking out a pair. Named to the 2024 Futures League All-Star game.
Pitched for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox in the Cape Cod League…Struck out two in 3.2 innings of work.
Played in 23 games for the Mystic Schooners in the New England Collegiate Baseball League. Slashed .292/.426/.431…Recorded 21 hits including seven doubles and a home run while driving in 13. Recorded a hit in 17 games and reached base safely in 21 games.. Produced four multi-hit efforts. Named to the 2024 NECBL All-Star game.
Aidan Dougherty
Played in 44 games for the Wenatachee AppleSox in the West Coast League. Slashed .380/.459./.509…Collected 65 hits with nine doubles, five triples, one homer, and drove in 43. Swiped 21 bags…Recorded a hit in 35 games and reached base safely in 38 contests. Recorded 18 multi-hit efforts highlighted by two five-hit games.
Pitched in eight games, making seven starts for the Sanford Mainers in the New England Collegiate baseball league. Logged 40.2 innings, going 3-0 with a 3.54 earned run average…Struck out 54 opponents, highlighted by two 10-strikeout starts against Keene on July 12 and August 3.
Pitched in 10 games out of the bullpen for the Keene Swamp Bats in the New England Collegiate Baseball League. Worked 15.1 innings, while striking out 25…Went 1-1 and recorded two saves on the season.
Carter Groen
Played in 31 games for the Southern Maryland Senators in the Cal Ripken Baseball League. Slashed .347/.448/.705…Tallied 33 hits including five doubles, a triple, and slugged nine home runs.. Drove in 24 and swiped 10 bags on the season…Hit two home runs and drove in five on June 19th vs the Metro South County Braves…Name to the 2024 CRCL All-Star game.
Evan Hamberger
Pitched in eight games for the Mystic Schooners in the New England Collegiate Baseball League. Went 2-0 in 15.2 innings, while striking out 17 and holding a 3.45 earned run average… Struck out five in his debut vs. Keene (6/25)… Earned the win against Valley (7/3), going 3.1 inning, allowing one hit while striking out four…Struck out three in two innings of work vs the Vineyard (7/25) to earn the win.
Played in 24 games for the Mystic Schooners in the New England Collegiate Baseball League. Slashed .269/.409/.346…Recorded 14 hits, and drove in nine…Hit a pinch-hit grand slam at Newport (7/30)…Hit a solo home run vs. Bristol in the playoffs (8/3)…Had a four-hit night at the Vineyard (7/17).
Connor Lane
Played in 19 games for the Norwich Sea Unicorns in the Futures League. Slashed .210/.338/.339…Recorded 14 hits and drove in 12…Went 3 for 4 with four RBIs vs Nashua (7/7)… Hit a home run vs. the Road Warriors (7/18)…Hit a grand slam vs Vermont (8/2).
Grant MacArthur
Played in 41 games for the Rochester Honkers in the Northwoods League. Slashed .257/.429/.421…Compiled 36 hits with eight doubles, five home runs, 28 RBIs, and walked 38 times…Recorded nine multi-hit efforts…Went 3 for 4 with a double in a win vs. La Crosse on July 27th… Hit a home run and drove in 3 vs La Crosse (8/8).
Appeared in eight games with three starts for the Danbury Westerners in the New England Collegiate Baseball League. Logged 25.2 innings, striking out 19 with a 1-2 record and a 5.26 earned run average. Earned the win going 8.0 shutout innings, on five hits, one walk, and striking out seven vs. Valley (7/19).
Played in 22 games for the Mystic Schooners in the New England Collegiate Baseball League. Slashed .316/.380/.609. Recorded 24 hits with seven home runs and drove in 23…Went 4 for 5 with a home run and 5 RBIs vs Vineyard (7/9)…Named to the 2024 NECBL All-Star Game.
Played in 13 games for the Norwich Sea Unicorns in the Futures League. Recorded five hits with a double and scored five times.
Played in 27 games for the Amsterdam Mohawks in the Perfect Game League. Slashed .286/.452/.365. Had 20 hits, four doubles, a triple, and knocked in 12… Stole 12 bases…Reached base safely in 20 games…Went 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs vs Mohawk Valley (7/2).
Beau Root
Played in 29 games for the Vermont Mountaineers in the New England Colligate Baseball League. Slashed .247/.369/.409. Recorded 23 hits including four triples and two home runs while knocking in 16…Hit a home run and drove in two vs Keene (6/14)…Went 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs vs Bristol (7/23).
Greg Shaw
Appeared in eight games with seven starts for the Valley Blue Sox in the New England Colligate Baseball League. Logged 35.2 innings, striking out 23 with a 2.35 ERA while recording a 2-0 record. Went 15 scoreless innings from June 18th to July 6th while collecting two wins, against Bristol (6/26) and Sanford (7/6). Named to the 2024 NECBL All-Star game.
Played in 26 games for the Sanford Mainers in the New England Collegiate Baseball League. Hit .314 with 32 hits, four doubles, one triple, three home runs, four RBI, and stole 40 bags. Recorded a hit in 23 games and reached base safely in every game played. Went 5 for 6 with a home run and two RBIs vs Newport (8/10).
Gabriel Tirado
Played in 26 games for the New Britain Bees in the Futures League. Hit .255 with 24 hits, seven doubles, four home runs and 20 RBIs. Went 3 for 4 with two doubles and three RBIs vs Westfield (6/4)…Went 3 for 4 with two RBIs vs the Road Warriors (6/25). Named to the 2024 FCBL All-Star game.
Appeared in five games for the Chatham Anglers in the Cape Cod League. Went 2-0 with one save recording a 2.65 ERA in 17 innings of work with 22 strikeouts. Named to the 2024 Cape Cod League All-Star game.
Pitched in nine games with one start for the Danbury Westerners in the New England Collegiate Baseball League. Logged 21 innings, striking out 26, and held a 4.71 ERA…Went 3.0 innings scoreless, striking out three vs. Bristol (6/7)…Struck out 6 in 3.1 innings of work vs Upper Valley (7/16).
Appeared in eight games with one start for the Mystic Schooners in the New England Collegiate Baseball League. Went 1-2 with a 4.29 ERA, striking out 18 in 14.2 innings of work. Recorded a strikeout in every appearance…Received the win vs. North Shore (7/14) going 2.0 innings allowing zero runs, one hit, and striking out one.
