Track & Field Cruise Past the Competition on Senior Day Weekend
UConn Northeast Challenge Final Results | Friar Invitational Final Results
STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut men's and women's track & field teams fired away at the competition at the UConn Northeast Challenge with senior day to wrap up the successful weekend.
In the two-day meet at home, through the rain and cold weather, the Huskies fought hard to dominate in nearly every event. In the team score, the women took first with 161.5 points scored over 20 events. Albany followed in second place with 113 and Dartmouth placed third with 64.5 points. The men also took first with a score of 129 points in 20 events. Albany and Rhode Island took second and third with 73 and 69 points, respectively.
The Huskies totaled 34 top-five results, 10 first-place results, and five of those being personal records.
On the men's side, senior pole vaulter Travis Snyder accelerated in his performance slashing an outdoor school record of 5.46m (17'11'). He placed first in the event. First-year Josh Mooney dominated the men's decathlon for his first collegiate outdoor multi-event meet. Mooney placed first with 7,026 points. Then, Kasey Savage in the long jump (1st, 7.44m) and Mawali Osunniyi in the high jump (1st, 2.14m) both put up solid performances once again in the outdoor season.
Senior Kevin Cawley competed at the Friar Invitational on Friday, April 12, taking first place and running a time of 8:58.15 in the 3,000m Steeplechase.
For the women, senior Caroline Towle broke her personal record in the 1500 (3rd, 4:39.25). Junior A'liyah Thomas put on a masterful performance in both the long jump (1st, 6.46m) and in the 100-meter hurdles (13.54). First-year Anna Connors competed hard in all three events: the 400 (4th, 56.07), the 200 (1st, 24.40), and the 4x400 with Jalah Cooper, Caroline Rice, and Jessica Starr (2nd, 3:55.42). To round out the Northeast Challenge, junior Alyssa Elliott took second in the women's heptathlon with 5,298 points.
Senior Sophie Coughlin competed at the Friar Invitational in the 3,000m Steeplechase and finished in first with a time of 10:36.15.
