Maresa Hense Wins Pentathlon on Husky Challenge Day 1
STORRS, Conn.- Freshman Maresa Hense had a tremendous UConn debut, winning the pentathlon on Thursday at the UConn Husky Challenge in Storrs.
Hense totaled 4,021 points to take the top spot in the multi-event competition, securing the top spot in four of the five events. The freshman from Germany completed the 60 meter hurdles in 8.73 seconds, the 800m in 2:19.57, long jump in 6.10, and took home the furthest shot put throw at 11.39m.
The Huskies took home the top two spots in the women's pentathlon, as Alyssa Elliot finished in second with a score of 3,489. Audrey Kozak finished in fourth, totaling 3,230 points, a personal best for the sophomore. Mackenzie Braunstein and Emily Miller made their UConn debuts, with scores of 3,182 and 2,412 respectively.
In the men's heptathlon, Diarmuid O'Connor made his season debut with a strong day 1 performance, with 3,077 points to lead the table through the first four events. Joshua Mooney ended the day in second behind O'Connor, at 2,970 points. Max Ringwall and Dar Jankovic finished the first day in fifth and sixth at 2,748 and 2,722 points respectively. Michael Johnson and Douglas Walsh made their season debuts, checking in at 2,513 points and 2,033 points.
