The Husky Run & Ruck will offer a 10K run, 5K run, and untimed 1 mile walk that will take place in Storrs on Veterans Day weekend, honoring those who have served. Through UConn's Office of Veterans Affairs and Military Programs, proceeds will provide scholarship for military and veteran students and benefit the Kyle Milliken Fund.
The Kyle Milliken Fund honors Navy Special Warfare Operator Senior Chief Petty Officer (SEAL) Kyle Jeffrey Milliken who was Killed in Action serving his country on May 5, 2017 in East Africa. Kyle was a highly decorated combat veteran with numerous awards and 10 deployments. He was an amazing father, husband, son, brother, and friend whose passion for life was contagious. His sharp wit and magnetic personality made lasting impressions on everyone he met. The proceeds from the tournaments benefited the families of fallen heroes and the Navy SEAL Foundation. Kyle walked on to the UConn Track & Field team while a UConn student in 1998, immediately becoming a cornerstone and leader of the team.
The Husky Run & Ruck, presented by Hartford Marathon Foundation Events, will see the 10K runners challenged by the Bonemill loop that explores the rural Mansfield-Storrs area. All of the courses will pass by the Ultimate Sacrifice Memorial on the Great Lawn. A Blackhawk helicopter will land on the Great Lawn during the race.
