Huskies Show Out at UCF Black & Gold Invite for Outdoor Season Opener
UCF Black & Gold Final Results
ORLANDO, Fla. - The University of Connecticut men's and women's track & field teams started off the outdoor season at UCF Black & Gold Invite with many strong results in the two-day competition on Friday and Saturday.
The Huskies continued where they left off from the indoor season with more results to be proud of. In total, there were 14 top-five results, including two personal records and two first-place finishes.
"We've had a whole week of spring break training down here [Orlando], so the entire week was spent in preparation for this outdoor season, and it was really a productive week for the entire Husky crew that was down here," said Director of Track & Field Beth Alford-Sullivan. "We opened very well here, but it was hot here, so it was an adjustment. We competed very well, it was a great season opener, and the team went up against good competition."
On the men's side, senior Kasey Savage exploded for a strong leap in the long jump with a personal best mark of 7.65 meters (49' 2.25") placing first. Following behind that jump would be junior Marc Morrison with a second-place mark of 7.49m, respectively. Savage then took a second-place mark in the triple jump leaping 14.99m (49' 2.25").
On the second day, senior Stephen Sutton ran a second-place time of 1:51.61 seconds, respectively. To round it out, first-year Mawali Osunniyi continued to impress with a second-place jump of 2.09m (6' 10.25").
