Winkler, Morrison, and Ventura Set for NCAA Track & Field Championships

STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut track & field teams get ready to compete at the national championships as three athletes on the men's side look to continue tremendous stride in their performances this season on Wednesday at the University of Texas in Austin, Texas.
Those three athletes competing on the national stage are Colin Winkler in the javelin throw, Marc Morrison in the long jump, and Wellington Ventura in the 400m hurdles. All three qualified with strong results to look back on in the season.
In the Javelin at the BIG EAST Championships, Winkler threw a meet record and facility record along with a personal record at 72.35m. Then, at the NCAA East Preliminaries Winkler finished 10th overall in the event to qualify for nationals with a 70.69m result. Winkler will get things going for the Huskies on Wednesday starting at 6:30 p.m. ET.
Also at the BIG EAST Championships, Morrison broke his personal record and finished with the fourth best all-time mark at UConn with a jump of 7.64m. Then, at the NCAA East Prelims Morrison took 11th overall to qualify for nationals with a 7.52m result. Morrison will be set to compete starting at 9 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
Then, in the 400m hurdles, Ventura continued to impress as he advanced to the semifinals running a time of 50.72 seconds placing second in his heat. He then qualified for nationals after a 50.86 time placing first in his heat. Ventura has also improved his own school record twice this outdoor season as he set it for the second time at the BIG East Championships running it in 50.10 seconds.
For Ventura to advance to the 400m hurdles finals on the national stage, he will either have to finish in the top three in his heat or have one of the next three fastest times on Wednesday in the preliminaries. He is set to compete at 9:30 p.m. ET. If he advances, he will compete on Friday at 10:27 p.m. ET.
The competition can be streamed live all four days on ESPN+ starting at 3:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday, 1 p.m. ET on Thursday, 3:45 p.m. ET on Friday, and 5 p.m. ET on Saturday. Additionally, the championship will be aired on ESPNU on Wednesday between 7:30 p.m. -11 p.m. ET.
