6 Huskies Compete at Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener
STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut track & field team got the season underway at the Boston University Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener. Six athletes on the men's side took part in the 125-team field.
The top marks came from Mahamed Sharif in the Mile Run, graduate student Kevin Cawley in the 3,000 Meter Run, and Christopher Lepore in the 5,000 Meter Run. Sharif took 29th with a time of 4:13.66 with Stephen Sutton also competing in the mile finishing 4:17.44 for 39th place. Cawley clocked in at 8:12.48 placing 54th. Lepore wrapped up the final event of the meet with a 14:11.47 time in 132nd place while Alec Sauter took 178th at 14:30.26, and first year Sean Ahern put up a 14:46.04 time in 198th place.
UConn men's and women's track & field next host the UConn Husky Challenge for a two-day meet on Thursday, Dec. 7 and Friday, Dec. 8 at the newly renovated Hugh S. Greer Field House. The meet begins with the multi-events on Thurday as the women's pentathlon kicks off at noon followed by the men's heptathlon starting at 12:30 p.m. On Friday, the men conclude with the heptathlon at 10 a.m. with the first field event at 11 a.m.and the first track event at 4 p.m.
