Track & Field Posts Strong Showing at Suffolk Relays
BOSTON, Mass.- UConn Track & Field traveled to Boston on Saturday, competing in the Suffolk Relays in their return to action after the new year. On the day, the Huskies won six events and set four personal bests.
Men's Track:
- Mahamed Sharif (Westbrook, Maine) won the 1000m run, beating out the field with a time of 2:26.91.
Women's Track:
- Anna Connors (Bangor, ME.) secured a victory in the 500m, with a personal best of 1:15.39,
- Harriet Barber (Manchester, NH) set a personal best, with a time of 1:21.26
- Calista Mayer (Tolland, CT) finished 2nd in the 1000m, with a personal best of 2:54.84.
Men's Field:
- Travis Roux (Northport, NY) pulled away from the competition to claim the number one spot in the weight throw, at 19.28m.
- Garrett McHeard (Amsterdam, NY) claimed the top spot in the shot put at 16.27m. Teammate Jack Foster (Saratoga Springs, NY) finished right behind McHeard, taking second with a throw of a 15.97m.
- Marc Morrison (Orlando, FL.) won the men's long jump at 7.53m. The Huskies swept the top three spots, with Kasey Savage (Horsham, PA.) and Kyle Johnson (Montverde, FL.) taking second and third, at 7.35m and 7.18m, respectively.
- Unattached athlete Travis Snyder won the pole vault, jumping 4.90m.
- Dar Jankovic (Willington, CT) set a new personal best in the high jump, finishing in second overall at 2.11m.
Women's Field:
- Natalia Surdej (Lancaster, NY) took home the top spot in the women's weight throw, with a throw of 18.61 meters.
