UConn's Beth Alford-Sullivan Named USTFCCCA Northeast Coach of the Year
STORRS, Conn. - The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced their 2024 outdoor season regional awards on Friday with UConn Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Beth Alford-Sullivan being named the Northeast Region Men's and Women's Coach of the Year.
Alford-Sullivan, in her second year UConn, led the Huskies to the team title at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships her second-straight conference outdoor title and the program's ninth outdoor championship. UConn bested the BIG EAST field with 287.5 points, winning seven events. UConn, which had 21 medalists at the BIG EAST Championships, had eight athletes in the NCAA DI East First Round and a pair of NCAA Championship qualifiers, including Diarmuid O'Connor, who earned Second-Team All-American honors in the decathlon.
On the women's side, Alford-Sullivan led the Huskies to the team title at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships, their second-straight under the head coach and fifth outdoor title in program history. The Huskies took home the trophy with 210.33 points, winning four events. UConn, which had 20 medalists and set one program record at the Big East Championships, had eight athletes qualify to the NCAA DI East First Round. UConn sent two Huskies to the NCAA Championship with Chloe Thomas taking home Second Team All-American honors in the 5000 meters.
In her two seasons in Storrs, Alford-Sullivan has led the Huskies to season-sweeps at the BIG EAST indoor and outdoor championships in both seasons. UConn has had seven athletes earn their way to the NCAA Championship during her tenure.
