Track & Field Olympic Team Trials Begin Thursday
STORRS, Conn. - UConn former and current track & field student athletes will compete for a spot at the 2024 Paris Olympics at the Olympic trials on June 21-30 with the U.S Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore., at Hayward Field.
There will be six UConn former and current athletes taking the Olympic trials stage.
Taylor Anderson (G'17) qualified for the 100 meters at Eugene, Ore. Anderson will compete on June 21 at 5:53 p.m. PT.
A'liyah Thomas, a current student athlete, will compete at the long jump qualifying round in Eugene on June 27 at 6:18 p.m. PT. She put up a season best mark of 6.46m and competed at nationals.
Eric Van Der Els (G'22) qualified in the 5,000 meters prelims with a season best time of 13:21.78. Van der Els will compete on June 27 at 8:03 p.m. PT in Eugene.
Chloe Thomas will compete at the Canadien Olympic Trials in Montreal, Quebec on June 27. Thomas qualified for the 5,000m with a season best mark of 15:34.43. She also competed at nationals and earned second team All-America honors and will toe the line on June 27 at 9:45 p.m. ET.
Terrel Williams, a recent UConn 2024 graduate, has been accepted to compete in the Trinidad & Tobago Olympic Trials in the 110-meter hurdles on June 29.
Also, rising senior Emily Alty will compete at the Canadien trials in the discus on June 29 at 5:30 p.m. PT.
