Track & Field Kick Off Outdoor Season at Yellow Jacket Invite
STORRS, Conn. - Following a dominant indoor track & field season that resulted in dual BIG EAST crowns, the UConn men's and women's track and field teams will kick off their outdoor season on Friday and Saturday at the Yellow Jacket Invite hosted by Georgia Tech Univesity. Last weekend, Marc Morrison and Kyle Johnson wrapped up the indoor season in historic fashion for UConn, receiving second team all-American honors in the long jump and triple jump, respectively.
In the 2024 outdoor track & field season, both teams claimed their third straight outdoor conference crowns to round out their third-straight season sweep (indoor and outdoor championships) Between the two squads, UConn claimed 44 medals, eight personal records, and 11 first-place finishes in the three-day event hosted by Villanova.
Following the BIG EAST Championships, the Huskies sent eight men and eight women to the NCAA East First Round qualifiers, with four athletes qualifying for the NCAA National Championship qualifications. Diarmuid O'Connor earned second-team all-American honors in Eugene last spring, earning 7,546 points in the decathlon to finish 13th in the country.
In Atlanta this weekend, the Yellow Jacket Invite will last two days, beginning with the hammer throw at 11:30am on Friday morning. The teams competing in the meet will be host Georgia Tech, UAB, Auburn, Austin Peay, Belmont, Georgia, Georgia State, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, Missouri, MTSU, North Georgia, Manhattan College, and Vanderbilt.
