Huskies Clipped by Siena, 4-3; Lose at Hofstra
MANCHESTER, Conn. - The UConn men's tennis team lost a hard fought battle with Siena on Sunday, 4-3 at the Magic Lincer Tennis Club in Manchester. On Saturday, the Huskies were dealt a 4-0 loss on the road at Hofstra.
On Sunday, the Huskies dropped the opening doubles point but did get a win from their No.2 team of junior Yili Zheng (Shanghai, China) and freshman Rami Scheetz (Cedar Rapids, Ia.). The duo teamed to be Geovanny Mendoza and Matt Bellino in a 7-6 (3) battle.
In singles play, Zheng posted a win at the No. 3 spot over Guillermo Lopez Torres in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-1. At No. 2, junior John Michael Holtmann (Coral Gables, Fla.) won a three-set battle over Sagar Bains. Holtmann won 7-6 (2), 5-7 and 1-0 (7).
Freshman Luke Riemann (Cheshire, Conn.) posted a win at No. 6 over Bellino, winning 7-6 (9) and 7-6 (8).
The Huskies will be back in action next weekend when they head back on the road to Saint Joseph's and Bucknell.
