Huskies Fall Short in Battle with Merrimack

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn men's tennis team lost a hard fought 4-3 decision to Merrimack on Saturday night at the Magic Lincer Tennis Club in Manchester.  

The Huskies got an opening doubles win from the freshmen tandem of Nicholas Gore (Kingston, Jamica) and Luke Riemann (Cheshire, Conn.) defeated Conrad Koch and P. De Godoy Mancini, 6-2.

In singles action, sophomore Christian Provenzano (Montclair, N.J.) got things started wtih a 6-1, 7-6 (10) win over A. Mackay Rodriguez at the No. 6 spot.  Gore made it a two-win night by grabbing a 6-4, 7-6 (4) win at No. 4 over Alex Fedorov.  Junior John Michael Holtmann (Coral Gables, Fla.) was a three-set winner at the No. 1 singles spot.  After dropping the first set, 6-3, he rebounded to post a 6-4 and 6-1 win.

The Huskies wore green on Saturday night in support of the Powerful Minds initiative to promote mental health initiatives at UConn and the American Athletic Conference.

UConn is back on the courts on Sunday, March 8 when they head to Marist for a dual match.
