MSOC falls at Yale

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The UConn men's soccer team lost the Yale Bulldogs 2-1 on Friday night.

The first half saw plenty of chances for both teams with shots favoring Yale 8-6. UConn got their first chance of the game in the 7th minute as Pierce Bateson swung in a dangerous cross in front of goal, but Adil Iggoute could not get on the end of it. Just one minute later, UConn goalkeeper Jayden Hibbert made an incredible save making an initial stop on a Yale shot that was followed up by a rebound that Hibbert saved going full extension to keep the game tied.

In the 30th minute Eli Conway had the Huskie best chance of the half. The sophomore found himself in on goal on a fortunate UConn bounce, but the Yale goalkeeper made a great leg save, keeping the game scoreless.

The match was stopped in the 39th minute due to lightning in the area. The match would resume 70 minutes later, with the last six minutes remaining scoreless heading into the half.

Yale came out strong in the second half scoring two goals in a three minute span, putting the Huskies two goals down.

UConn threw everything they had at Yale for the final 35 minutes of the match, producing eleven shots. The Huskies finally found a breakthrough in the 89th minute as Lucas Almeida found the back of the net for the second straight game. The freshman got on the end of a cross from Bateson, finishing with his head in the box.
