MSOC Welcomes NJIT to Storrs Thursday Night
STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men's soccer team (1-0) returns to the pitch on Thursday, August 29 as the Huskies will host the NJIT Highlanders (1-0-1) at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm. Tickets are available HERE.
UConn is coming off a dominant performance in their season opener against Stonehill a week ago. Five different Huskies got on the score sheet, marking the Huskies largest goal output in match since 2019 (Nov. 5, Tulsa). Four of the five goal scorers are newcomers to this year's roster in Sabri Hanni, Charlie Holmes, Michael Suski, and Marco Valentic.
Redshirt-freshman Max Kerkvliet got the nod in the season opener in goal for the Huskies, making his first career start. The Houston, Texas native made three saves in his debut, earning his first career shutout.
NJIT is coming off their first win of the season on Monday, a 3-0 win at La Salle. The Highlanders are coached by Fernando Barboto who is in his ninth season. Barbota has led NJIT to four straight America East Tournament appearances. Thursday marks the second all-time meeting between the two programs. UConn won the first matchup, 3-1 in 2022 (Sept. 2).
The match will be streamed for free on UConn+ and will also be available in Connecticut on WAAX.
