MSOC Beats Siena, Remain Unbeaten

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men's soccer team defeated the Siena Saints, 2-1 on Monday night at Morrone Stadium. The Huskies move to 4-0-1, remaining unbeaten through their first five matches of the season.

The match was a stalemate in the first 45 minutes with both teams tallying four shots going into the half.

UConn came out firing to start the second half, scoring two goals in the first ten minutes of the half. Midfielder Sabri Hanni opened the scoring for the Huskies off a beautiful free kick in the 52nd minute. The Paris, France native hit a bullet just outside the Siena box into the far corner, giving Hanni his fourth goal of the season and the Huskies the lead.

Just two minutes later in the 54th minute, freshman forward Evan Pickering doubled the Huskies lead, recording his first career goal. Kieran Chandler played a dangerous ball into the Siena box that was headed by Scott Testori to an open Pickering in front of goal. The California native fired his first goal into the back of the net, putting UConn in the driver's seat up 2-0.

Siena trimmed into the Huskies lead in the 81st minute off a UConn own goal. Sophomore defender Johan Hamel had an inadvertent touch that ended up in UConn's goal, conceding for just the third time this season.
