MSOC Tops NJIT

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men's soccer team defeated the NJIT Highlanders, 2-1 on Thursday night. The Huskies move to 2-0 on the young season. The last time UConn won their opening two matches in a season was 2016.

Senior forward Scott Testori opened the scoring for the Huskies in the 29th minute, tallying his first goal in the 2024 campaign. Testori got on the end of a free kick from sophomore Max Gummesson, heading home the Huskies first goal of the night.

UConn led 1-0 going into the halftime break, as NJIT outshout the Huskies 6-5 in the first half.

Sabri Hanni doubled the Huskies lead in the 51st minute with a beautiful finish into the bottom corner. The Paris, France native has now scored in back to back games to open his UConn career.

After a video review by the referee, NJIT was awarded a penalty kick in the 76th minute for a hand ball in the box. Sergio Martinez Cubel converted the penalty kick for NJIT, making it 2-1. This is the first goal UConn has conceded this season.

The Huskies thwarted off the Highlanders for the final 14 minutes, giving UConn another tally in the win column.
