MSOC settles for scoreless draw vs. LIU

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men's soccer team played to a scoreless draw against LIU on Sunday night. The Huskies remain unbeaten in the 2024 season moving to 2-0-1.

UConn had a strong first 45 minutes of the match controlling much of the possession, outshooting the Sharks 5-2. The Huskies best chance of the first half came in the 27th minute off the foot of Nicolas Tomerius. The junior midfielder had his shot from just outside the Sharks box ring the cross bar, keeping the game scoreless.

In the second half both teams had great chances to score a potential game winner, as LIU outshot UConn 8-6 in the final 45 minutes. UConn made LIU's goalkeeper Eoin Gawronski make two big saves in the second half to keep the game scoreless. The first chance came in the 68th minute as junior forward Eli Conway nearly got on the end of a loose ball in the box, but Gawronski sprawled into action keeping Conway off the score sheet. Graduate transfer Michael Suski nearly found a game winner in the 88th minute off a free kick just outside of LIU's box. The Connecticut native beautifully bended his shot around the LIU wall but right into the waiting hands of Gawronski.

Redshirt-freshman Max Kerkvliet earned his second shutout of the season, making two saves in the match. The Houston, Texas native still hasn't allowed a goal in the run of play, only conceding to a penalty kick this season.
