MSOC bounces back against Siena

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men's soccer team (2-1) defeated the Siena Saints (0-4), 3-1 on Monday night at Morrone Stadium.

The Huskies grabbed control early in the match scoring their first goal in the 14th minute. The West Hartford native, Lucas Almeida netted his first collegiate goal in just his third game for the Huskies. The freshman forward got on the end of a cross from senior Moussa Wade, giving the Huskies an early lead.

UConn doubled their lead in the 35th minute as Ayoub Lajhar got on the scoresheet for the first time in his career. The freshman midfielder from Dernah, Libya finished off a set piece delivered by classmate Kieran Chandler, giving the Huskies a 2-0 lead heading into the halftime break.

Siena made it a one score game in the 62nd minute, on a goal by Henrik Winkelmann.

Eli Conway sealed the win for the Huskies in the 78th minute with his second goal of the season. The sophomore forward hustled to force a turnover from a Siena defender putting him all alone on goal. Conway then dribbled past the goalkeeper putting the ball into the empty net with his left foot, giving UConn their second win of the young season.

"I thought the intensity was there, I thought the group worked hard", said head coach Chris Gbandi. "Anytime we have intensity and work hard, I think we give ourselves an opportunity to be successful."
