MSOC falls to Georgetown in BIG EAST semifinal

BOYDS, MD. – The UConn men's soccer team lost, 2-0 to the Georgetown Hoyas on Thursday night at the Maryland SoccerPlex.

Georgetown got off to a fast start making UConn's starting goalkeeper Jayden Hibbert tally three saves in the first five minutes of the game. Hibbert would finish with five saves in the match. The Huskies settled into the game limiting the Hoyas to one shot on goal for the rest of the first half.

The match remained scoreless going into the halftime break with the Hoyas holding a 7-1 advantage in shots.

Georgetown broke the deadlock in the 70th minute as Marlon Tabora scored his fourth goal of the season, giving the Hoyas a 1-0 lead.

Georgetown had a chance to extend their lead in the 75th minute as the Hoyas were awarded a penalty kick but junior midfielder Joe Buck skied the penalty over the crossbar keeping it a one score game.

The Hoyas sealed the game with a goal in the 88th minute off the foot of Max Viera, putting the game out of reach for the Huskies.

"I thought we started out the game slow, and then we settled into it," said head coach Chris Gbandi. "To be fair I think the score line was right, they played better than us today and did what they needed to do to win the game. They are a great team, I think that's why they have done so well in the BIG EAST for so long, and they deserved to win the game. I want to thank our seniors, Josh, Moussa, Guillaume, Kyle, Tyler, Okem, Clay, Jack, and Adil for all the hard work they have put into this program, and I think they are leaving this program in a better place than when they came here."
