MSOC takes down Creighton, securing a spot in the BIG EAST Tournament

OMAHA, Neb. – The UConn men's soccer team picked up three points at Creighton on Saturday afternoon, securing a spot in the BIG EAST Tournament. The Huskies scored two goals in the first half, giving them their first road win at a critical time in the season.

UConn jumped out in front early in the 4th minute as Pierce Bateson tallied his second goal of the season. Classmate Nicolas Tomerius recorded his seventh assist of the season as he slotted a perfect pass to a wide open Bateson in front of the Creighton goal. The sophomore midfielder placed a perfect shot off the post and in, giving UConn an early 1-0 lead.

Creighton found the back of the net in the 35th minute but the goal was disallowed as a Creighton attacker was ruled offside, preserving the UConn lead.

UConn doubled the lead a minute later in the 36th minute as Scott Testori notched a goal in his third straight game. The Connecticut native hit a well-placed shot outside the Creighton 18 yard box that kissed off the post and in, giving the Huskies a 2-0 lead going into the half.

Creighton controlled much of the possession in the second half as the blue jays outshot the Huskies 12-2. UConn's goalkeeper Jayden Hibbert came up big, making four saves and keeping a clean sheet for the fourth time this season.

"I thought it was a great performance", said head coach Chris Gbandi. "Creighton is a tough team to play, especially at home. I thought in the first half we did a great job of creating chances and putting those chances away and then in the second half we were solid defensively."
