Huskies Score 5 Unanswered, Cruise to Win over Colgate

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men's hockey team cruised to a 6-2 victory over Colgate behind five unanswered goals Saturday evening to complete the weekend sweep of the Raiders. Junior Jake Percival finished with two goals and one assist, sophomore Joey Muldowney finished with two assists and junior Tyler Muszelik finished with 32 saves.

Looking to avenge last night's loss, Colgate came out aggressive, looking for the first goal of the game. After weathering the initial attack by Colgate, the Huskies settled in and looked to jump on the attack of their own. Colgate found the back of the net first as the puck snuck through Tyler Muszelik legs as he was sliding to make the save. Following the goal, the Raiders defense locked down the Huskies to enter the break with the one goal lead.

The second period was all UConn as they scored three unanswered goals to take the 3-1 lead. Junior Tabor Heaslip opened the scoring as he was in the right place at the right time to tip home the puck after it sat on the goal line following a Jake Percival shot. Three minutes later UConn scored two goals in less than as sophomore's Joey Muldowney and Jake Richard connected on a beautiful goal, followed by Muldowney finding junior Jake Percival for the tip in goal. With the two-goal lead, the Huskies defense stepped up and was able to prevent another Raiders goal, to head into the third period with the two-goal lead.

The Huskies didn't stop there as the Huskies were able to score three more goals in the third period to extend their lead. Freshman Kaden Shahan opened the scoring in the third period as goaltender Tyler Muszelik passed the puck to defenseman Viking Gustafsson Nyberg, who fired the puck the length of the ice to Shahan who was able to find the back of the net on the breakaway. 30 seconds later, Jake Percival was in the right place at the right time for his second goal of the game as he was able to put home the rebound off a John Spetz shot. The Raiders were able to net their second goal of the game late in the third period, however an empty net goal by junior Ryan Tattle sealed the 6-2 win for the Huskies.

Up next:  The Huskies will turn their attention to another non-conference matchup as they are set to begin a home and home series on the road with the Holy Cross Crusaders Friday. Puck drop is scheduled for 7pm and can be streamed live on Flo Sports.
