Huskies Fall to Northeastern, Split Weekend Series

STORRS, Conn. -  The UConn men's hockey team fell to the Northeastern Huskies by a final of 4-2 Saturday evening at the Toscano Family Ice Forum. Samu Salminen and Oliver Flynn were the goal scorers for the Huskies.

UConn fell behind early as Northeastern jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period. Northeastern opened the scoring nine minutes into the start of the game as a loose puck in front of the net found the stick of Dylan Hryckowian. One minute later, Northeastern doubled their lead with a power play goal. UConn had an opportunity to cut into the Northeastern lead before the period ended, but the puck died before crossing the goal line causing the Huskies to enter the period break trailing by two.

Northeastern increased their lead to three in the third period as Liam Walsh was able to beat senior goaltender Ethan Haider. UConn was able to cut into the Northeastern lead, as Matthew Wood left the puck for sophomore Samu Salminen who fired it past Cameron Whitehead of Northeastern. UConn was unable to find another goal in the second period, as they entered the period break trailing by two.

One minute into the start of the third period, Northeastern regained a three-goal lead and never looked back. With one minute remaining, freshman Oliver Flynn scored his first career goal for the Huskies but would be too little too late as the Huskies fall to Northeastern by a final of 4-2.

UConn will wrap up the regular season Thursday March 7 as they will welcome Vermont to Toscano Family Ice Forum. Puck drop is scheduled for 7pm and can be streamed live on ESPN+.
