ORONO, ME. –  The UConn men's hockey team skated to a tie vs. no.5 Maine Saturday evening, taking four of six points in the weekend series. Junior Jake Percival tied the game at two with 37 seconds remaining in the game.

The first period was controlled by Maine, with the Huskies having to kill off a total of three penalties. Despite being on the penalty kill numerous times, the Huskies were able to keep Maine off the scoreboard with the man advantage. UConn took the lead late in the first period following their third penalty kill as junior Ryan Tattle fought through contact, stealing the puck and firing it past the Maine netminder for the goal. With time running down in the first period, UConn looked to clear the puck with seconds remaining, but Maine was able to steal the puck and find the equalizer with just 1.3 seconds remaining in the first period.

The second period began with the Huskies dominating but the Black Bear defense remained strong, preventing the Huskies from regaining the lead. After weathering the UConn attack, Maine went on an attack of their own, but freshman Callum Tung and the UConn defense was steady, preventing the Black Bears from taking their first lead of the weekend. With neither team able to find the back of the net in the second period, they entered the third period tied at one.

Maine took the 2-1 lead early in the third period as Cale Makar fired a one timer past freshman Callum Tung. The Huskies had opportunities to tie the game at two, but the Maine defense was strong in the third period fending off the Huskies attack. With under five minutes remaining in the game Maine was issued a five-minute major and game misconduct for contact to the head. The Huskies pulled freshman Callum Tung in favor of an extra skater and with 37 seconds remaining in the game, junior Jake Percival redirected a shot from freshman Kai Janviriya for the game tying goal.

With the man advantage in the overtime period, the Huskies were unable to find the back of the net. After returning to even strength, neither team was able to find the back of the net and would head to a shootout. In the shootout, Maine opened round one with scoring, and that was all it took as UConn's three shots were denied, and Maine receives the extra point in the shootout.
