Huskies Score 5 in 3rd Period in Comeback Win vs. Harvard
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The UConn men's hockey team scored five goals in the third period en route to a 7-3 victory over the Harvard Crimson. Joey Muldowney and Ryan Tattle both scored two goals to help UConn come back from a 3-2 deficit.
The Huskies fell behind quick in the opening period as Harvard scored their first goal on their first shot of the game under three minutes in and followed that up with another goal one minute later to take the 2-0 lead. UConn looked to cut into the Harvard lead, and despite eight shots on goal, the Huskies were unable to find the back of the net in the opening period and entered the break trailing by two.
UConn found their stride in the second period, scoring two goals to tie the game. The Huskies first goal came as Nick Carabin fired the shot from the point making it through bodies and over the Harvard goaltender for the first goal of the game. Shortly after, UConn found the equalizer when Kaden Shahan redirected a shot from the point. Following a penalty on the Huskies, Harvard's power play went to work, and the Crimson were able to retake the lead with the man advantage to enter the period break with the 3-2 lead.
UConn jumped all over Harvard to open the third period, scoring three goals in two minutes of action. Joey Muldowney started the offensive barrage as he ripped a shot from the faceoff dot past the Harvard goaltender for the tying goal. The Huskies continued to pressure the Crimson, and it paid off as Ryan Tattle was able to take the behind the pass feed from Jake Percival, and with the goaltender out of position, score on the wide-open net. The Huskies were continued to fire on all cylinders, and once again Joey Muldowney found the back of the net, to give UConn the 5-3 lead early in the third period. Late in the third period, the Huskies extended their lead as Ryan Tattle took a pass from Trey Scott and with his back facing the goal, redirected it for his second of the night, and the Huskies sixth of the game. An empty net goal from Hudson Schandor with four minutes remaining would seal the deal for UConn.
UP NEXT: UConn will turn their attention to Hockey East play as they will travel to Durham New Hampshire to kick off a home and home series with the University of New Hampshire.
