GOLFERS BACK IN ACTION AT THE SURF CLUB INVITATIONAL

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men's golf team returns to action heading to North Myrtle Beach, S.C. to take part in the Surf Club Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, March 11 and 12.

The Huskies are one of 18 teams that will compete in the 54-hole event being held at the Surf and Beach Club's par 71 course.  The event will have teams play 36 holes on Monday with a 9:15 am shotgun start and a final round of 18 holes on Tuesday morning, starting at 9:30 am.

The 109-player field will feature the Huskies along with players from host App State, who will also filed a "B" team, Bucknell, Butler, Central Michigan, Dayton, Delaware, Holy Cross, LeMoyne, Long Island, Maryland-Eastern Shore, North Carolina A&T, North Carolina Central, Presbyterian, Queens, Radford and Rhode Island.

UConn was last in action three weeks ago when they finished tied for 8th in the 16-team field at the Palmas Del Mar Intercollegiate in Humacao, Puerto Rico.  Senior Tommy Dallahan (Simsbury, Conn.) led the Huskie contingent and earned himself BIG EAST Golfer of the Week honors after taking third place at the event, finishing four shots off the lead (69-69-67=205).  It was Dallahan's second top-10 and third top-20 finish in six events this season.

Dallahan will be joined by freshman Alex Heard (Boca Raton, Fla.), senior Jimmy Paradise (Tampa, Fla.), sophomore Connor Goode (Glastonbury, Conn.) and junior Ryan Dennehy (Princeton, Mass.) in the UConn lineup this week.  Junior Eric Boulger (Walpole, Mass.) and freshmen Jack Kantowski (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Bradley Sawka (Ellington, Conn.) will be competing as individuals at the two-day tournament.  Boulger and Kantowski will see their first action of the spring season.

Heard is coming off his top-tournament performance of the season last time out in Puerto Rico.  The freshman finished tied for 21st in the field and posted a season-low three round scored of 214 (71-75-68).

This week's tournament is the Huskies second trip down to a South Carolina course this season and they have another on the books when they play in Golfweek Invitational in Pawley's Island at the True Blue Golf Club in early April before ending with the BIG EAST Championship at Riverton Pointe Golf & Country Club in Hardeeville.

Following play at The Surf Club, the Huskies will be off until March 25 and 26 when they head out west for the Pathway to Progression tournament at Silverado Resort in Napa, Calif.
