DORADO, P.R. – The UConn men's golf team took home a fourth-place finish at the 2025 Dorado Beach Collegiate behind the strength of sophomore Alex Heard's (Boca Raton, FL) second place finish at the three-round event.
The Huskies finished the 16-team tournament with a three-round total of 850 (-14) on the TPC Dorado Beach Sugarcane par 72, 7,119-yard course. UConn shot 278 (-10) on Sunday during the first round and followed that up with a 285 on Monday and 288 during Tuesday's final round. The Huskies finished behind winner and host UNC Greensboro (835), Southern Mississippi in second (843) and Illinois State (844) in third place.
Heard turned in the best performance of the season and of his career as well as his highest finish. The sophomore was 9-under for the tournament to tie for second place, recording his first career top five finish on the leaderboard. Heard shot an opening round 67 (-5) on Sunday, matching the lowest round of the season of his career. He came back with a 71 on Monday and a 68 on Tuesday to close out the tournament and post a score of 207, his lowest tournament score in his two seasons in Storrs.
Over the three rounds Heard ranked third among all 101 players in field on the course's par 5's, playing to a -5 (4.25 avg) score. He finished the tournament ranked sixth in the field with 15 total birdies.
Junior Conor Goode (Glastonbury, CT) finished under par for the tournament, shooting one-under (215) to finish tied for 28th in the field. Goode was three-over (75) after the first round on Sunday but battled back and shot a 69 (-3) on Monday and finished the tournament out on Tuesday with a 70 (-2). He led all tournament players with 40 total pars over the three days.
Sophomore Bradley Sawka (Ellington, CT) posted an even-par three-day total of 216 (72-71-73) to finish tied for 35th overall. Sawka had his best round on Monday, firing a one-under 71 on the course. He finished tied for sixth in field playing the par 5's to a -8 (4.33 avg) score over the tournament.
Rounding out the UConn contingent was senior Ray Dennehy (Princeton, MA) who tied with classmate Eric Boulger (Walpole, MA) for 49th in the field. Dennehy finished with a 219 (69-76-74), enjoying his best round on Sunday with a three-under 69. Boulger shot 219 (70-74-75) also having his best round on Sunday with a two-under 70. Senior Vikram Konanki (Newton, MA), playing as an individual, was tied for 76th with a 225 (75-76-74).
The Huskies will return to action on March 10-11 when they look to defend their championship from last year at the Surf Club Invitational in North Myrtle Beach, SC.
