UConn's Goode Holds Lead After Round 1 Of Connecticut Amateur

UConn Athletic Communications / June 12, 2023

DARIEN, Conn. – Connor Goode could hardly have asked for a better start as he opened play Monday in the 121st Connecticut Amateur golf tournament, taking place at the Country Club of Darien.

Goode (Glastonbury, Conn.), a rising sophomore on the UConn golf team, holed his second shot for an eagle on the par-4 first hole, then put his tee shot within 2 feet on the par-3 second hole for a tap-in birdie and a 3-under score after two holes.

Goode (Glastonbury Hills Country Club), who won the 2021 Connecticut Junior Amateur, played the remainder of the round in a solid even-par to finish the day with a 3-under 68 and a one-shot lead over Arthur Ouimet (69), out of the Country Club of Waterbury. They were the only two players out of the 120-player field to break par Monday.

UConn rising senior Tommy Dallahan (Simsbury, Conn.), is also in the field, shooting a 5-over 76 in Round 1 to tie for 18th place.

Round 2 of the tournament takes place Tuesday, the final round of stroke play qualifying. The top 32 players after Tuesday's round will advance to match play on Wednesday, with the round of 32 in the morning and the Round of 16 in the afternoon.

The quarterfinals and semifinals will take place on Thursday, leading to the 36-hole championship match on Friday.
