Huskies Seventh at Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational

NAPA, Calif. – The UConn men's golf team wrapped-up play at the inaugural Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday afternoon at Silverado Resort, finishing seventh overall in the 11-team field.  UConn was led by freshman Bradley Sawka (Ellington, Conn.) who had his best tournament finish yet as a Husky tying for second place on the final leaderboard.

The Huskies finished the 54-hole event with three round scores of matching 296's over the first two rounds and a 297 on Tuesday on the par 72, 6,988 yard course in Napa, California.  Brigham Young took home the team title at the event that is part of the PGA TOUR's Pathway to Progression.

Sawka, playing as an individual for UConn, shot six-under for the tournament to finish in a three-way tie for second place and just a stroke off the top-spot.  The freshman was under par in all three rounds and matched his low round (69) and low tournament score (210) on the season.  Sawka shot a 70 over his first 18 holes and came back with a 69 on Monday afternoon, carding five birdies in each round.

Over Tuesday's final round, Sawka posted five more birdies and finished one-under (71) to wind up -6 over the 54-holes.  He was tied for second among all golfers with 15 birdies and was -4 on all par 4s over the two days, tied for tops in the tournament.  It marks his first career top-five finish and his second top-20 finish of the season.

Leading the way in UConn's lineup was senior Tommy Dallahan (Simsbury, Conn.) who finished tied for 23rd overall shooting 221 (75-73-73).  Dallahan led the tournament field with 42 pars over three rounds.  Freshman Alex Heard (Boca Raton, Fla.) matched Dallahan on the leader board in 23rd place, shooting a 221 (72-71-78) as well.  The freshman was under par in round two with a 71.

Junior Ryan Dennehy (Princeton, Mass.) finished tied for 37th overall shooting a 225 (74-80-71).  Dennehy rebounded from Monday's rounds by posting a one-under 71 on Tuesday.  Senior Jimmy Paradise (Tampa, Fla.) tied for 39th overall at 226 (75-73-78) and sophomore Connor Goode (Glastonbury, Conn.) rounded out UConn's top-five tying for 45th while shooting 229 (75-79-75).
