UConn Golfers Open Season at Visit Knoxville Collegiate
STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut men's golf team kicks off its fall slate at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate this weekend at the Tennessee National Golf Club in Loudon, Tenn.
Heading into the season opening tournament, the Huskies look to continue what they started from the 2022-23 season. At the end of the 2023 season in May at the BIG EAST Championships, current senior Tommy Dallahan finished top 20 for the third time that season and the 11th time in his career. Along with that, current sophomore Colin Spencer finished 25th for his second-best finish of the season.
Incoming junior Ray Dennehy will look to make his mark in the season opener as he played for two seasons at Lafayette with strong performances to look back on. Dennehy played in 20 events for Lafayette, capturing seven top 10 and eight top 20 finishes.
"I'm looking forward to getting our season under way," Coach Dave Pezzino said. "Ray Dennehy is a new addition this season, and we think he'll be great for us. Tommy Dallahan had a strong season for us last year and is coming off a summer where he reached the semifinals of the Connecticut State Amateur."
Coming up on the schedule is the UConn Invitational at GreatHorse in Hampden, Mass Oct. 1-3.
"We have a strong tournament to start," commented Pezzino, referring to the Knoxville event. "We're looking for solid scores this weekend that we can build on for the tournaments to come."
UConn will finish the fall portion of its season with two more tournaments -- the BMW Intercollegiate in Spartanburg, S.C., at the Carolina Country Club on Oct. 8-10 and then at Maui, Hawaii, at the Ka'anapali Collegiate Invitational on Oct. 26-28.
The spring season will begin with BIG EAST match play on Feb. 5-6 at Bear Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach, Fla.
